The Special Boat Unit (SBU) of the PNP – Maritime Group has been receiving several annual bilateral training officiated and conducted mainly by the US Army Special Forces, US NAVY SEALs, JUSMAG, and many more.

The PNP through its Maritime Group (MG) officially opens the Baker Piston 14-2 Training on February 24, 2014 at the Headquarters of the MG Special Boat Unit (SBU), Honda Bay, Brgy. Sta. Lourdes, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
The opening ceremony was graced by Police Director Marcelo P Garbo Jr, the Acting Chief Directorial Staff of the PNP, who acted as Guest of Honor and Speaker. It was also highlighted by the presence of Dr. Richard Miller, the outgoing Senior Law Enforcement Adviser (SLEA) of International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program of the US Department of Justice (ICITAP-USDOJ) in the Philippines, who ceremonially turned over his post to Mr. O. Karl Clark, the former SLEA of ICITAP-Bangladesh.
Also present in the said activity were Police Chief Superintendent Noel L. Vargas, Director of Maritime Group and its key officers; Mark A. Everson, Future Plans Officer Joint Inter-Agency Task Force (JIATF) West; Col. Robert C. McDowell, Commander of Joint Special Operations Task Force Philippines (Green Beret); Mr. Timothy Teal, US-DOJ-ICITAP Technical Adviser; and members of the US Army who will act as the training facilitators and instructors to the 70 students of Baker Piston 14-2 Training.
The Baker Piston Training, among others, aims to improve the effectiveness of the participants in ground operations-such as investigations and raids – that will lead to successful prosecutions of offenders. It includes sessions on human rights awareness, cordon and search techniques, special reconnaissance, land navigation, medical procedures, advanced marksmanship, small unit tactics in urban terrain, mission planning, trail interdiction, and movement techniques. The shooting capability of the participants is expected to be honed as the training also includes advanced rifle and pistol marksmanship.
